Dr. William Hutchinson Award
Congratulations to Dr. Janice Willett, the recipient of the 2014 Dr. William Hutchinson Award. Dr. Williett is a professional, dedicated, compassionate Obstetrician/ Gynecologist who has provided exceptional specialty services to her patients in Algoma since 1992.
For almost 25 years, she not only practiced medicine, but has been in involved in numerous local, regional and provincial committees and boards with the goal of improving medical care for patients in Algoma and beyond. In addition to serving as the President of the Ontario Medical Association, she also served as President of the Algoma West Academy of Medicine and has held various positions with the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada, including Ontario Regional Chair.
In her tenure as Medical Director of the Maternal Child Program at Sault Area Hospital, Dr. Willett was a progressive, tireless advocate for quality patient care, working hard to formulate long-term strategies to maintain and grow the program. As a leader and educator, Dr. Willett has been instrumental in assisting with physician recruitment efforts and is currently Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Continuing Education and Professional Development for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. She is also the Head of Clinical Sciences Division.
Dr. Willett has held various volunteer posts and currently serves as a member of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. She also received the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Council Award in 2010 and the Ontario Medical Association Past President Award.
Her contributions to health care in Algoma and beyond are countless. Dr. Willett continues to rise to whatever challenge comes her way. As a medical leader, clinician, hospital leader, administrator and teacher, Dr. Willett continues to provide exceptional service to the people of Algoma.
