Emergency Medicine Conference Coming to Sault Ste. Marie this Fall

September 12, 2011 - Emergency Medicine Conference Coming to Sault Ste. Marie this Fall

Sault Ste. Marie will play host to an Emergency Medicine Conference which will be held from September 20 to 23, 2011. Sessions will be held at Sault Area Hospital (SAH) and Sault College, with Algoma’s Water Tower Inn and Suites serving as the official conference hotel.

Organized by a group of local Emergency Medicine specialists and sponsored by SAH and the Sault Ste. Marie Physician Recruitment & Retention Committee, this four-day conference is designed to provide Emergency Medicine practitioners with an evidence-based update on a variety of related topics.

The Emergency Medicine Conference is comprised of two days of pre-conference skills followed by a two-day conference program. The pre-conference skills days feature an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course, which will provide an opportunity for participants to practice hands-on essential skills. The conference days will include scientific sessions and interactive workshops to allow participants to tailor their learning experience to their own needs and schedules.

Conference participants will acquire essential hands-on skills required in the treatment of both the pediatric and adult population, be able to provide leadership on issues of importance in Emergency Medicine, and employ up-to-date and evidence-based approaches to the diagnosis and manage medical and surgical emergencies.

“We are excited to be bringing this conference to our community and look forward to meeting our colleagues from across the region,” stated Dr. Ehsan Mohammadi, one of the conference organizers. “This is the first of its kind to be held in Sault Ste. Marie and hopefully we can make this an annual event, filling a gap in much-needed advanced educational resources in the North."
