The former Sault Area Hospital (SAH) site on Queen Street East has been officially listed for sale. The 19.27 acre (7.8 hectare) property, along with all buildings, is listed for $4.9 million dollars on an “as is” basis. Sam Butkovich, Broker of Record with RE/MAX Sault Ste. Staff from the City Planning Department and the Economic Development Corporation have also been instrumental in helping promote the properties both locally and outside the community.


“We have stated from the outset that our intent was to sell the property and buildings and use the proceeds to help pay down our debt,” stated Ron Gagnon, SAH President & CEO. “This is prime waterfront property which is already zoned for multiple possible uses, so we are hopeful that it will be attractive to prospective purchasers.”


The former Plummer Memorial Hospital site is currently being used as a Transitional Care facility for those patients no longer requiring acute care services and awaiting long-term placement elsewhere in the community. Plans are for this site to continue in this capacity until the early part of 2013, so any purchase offers will need to be structured accordingly.


“We wish to reassure our patients and their families that it will be ‘business as usual’ for those currently located at the Plummer site,” added Gagnon. “Apart from the need to walk prospective buyers through the building from time to time, there will be no change in the day-to-day activities or care being provided to our patients. Their well-being comes first.”


The property is being offered as one parcel, although multiple closing dates for various portions will be entertained to accommodate both the current Plummer situation and the eventual plans and timelines of the purchaser.


Any sale must also be approved by the provincial Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
