Visitor Restrictions Lifted on 3B Medical Unit

July 4, 2012 - Visitor Restrictions Lifted on 3B Medical Unit

July 4, 2012 - Officials from Sault Area Hospital (SAH), in concert with Algoma Public Health, have declared the Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) outbreak on the 3B medical unit officially over. As a result, visitor restrictions have now been lifted.

Effective immediately, visiting hours on this unit will return to normal - from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. All visitors are asked to adhere to visitor policy rules and refrain from visiting if experiencing any symptoms of illness. Children must be appropriately supervised by an accompanying adult at all times.

Anyone coming to the hospital is urged to wash their hands often with the solution provided throughout the facility and to be respectful of any direction or requests from staff. To reduce the possibility of transmission of infections, visitors are also asked to refrain from moving between patient rooms and/or inpatient medical units.

SAH wishes to thank the public and especially the families of patients on 3B, for their understanding and patience during this time. A special thanks to Infection Prevention and Control, all staff, physicians, volunteers and Algoma Public Health for their vigilance and hard work in managing the outbreak.
